Words that you need to know when you play MMORPG
I have been playing MMORPGs ever since I was like 13 years old and my first game was Ragnarok Online.
When I first played MMORPGs, there are a few words that I don’t understand when I read posts on Guides for Ragnarok. I bet everyone had the same time as me.
Here are some need-to-know-what-does-it-means words:
1. F2P
-Free to play which means you don’t have to pay to play (Obviously).
2. P/C, A>, S>, T>, B>
-When you read the trade channels, you will find these words are commonly used so what do they mean?
P/C stands for price check
A means for auction, the highest price will get the item
S means sell for cash
T means I’m willing to trade my Bunny Hat for your Spore hat but then sometime you need to pay extra since Four-leaves clover is rare, okay?
B means buy.
3. Cash Shop
-A cash shop is the place where you get your item but you pay in real cash. This is one of the ways game developers earn money to support their games. Sometimes, having those cash items won’t affect your character’s status but it will affect how your character looks (Geez, this is usually aimed at female players).
4. Upgrade Weapon/Armor
-Some games actually allow you to upgrade your weapon or armor which means enhancing or increasing the power of your equipment. But, everyone in game probably wants to be powerful thus it is competitive when it comes to upgrading weapon or armor. Usually, you need some ores to upgrade it along with some money and chances decreases when your equipment has more upgrades on it! Ores are usually “rare” and can only be found from mobs.
And of course, once you have a +10 weapon, it will sells for much more money than your +0 weapon because you need to consider how many weapons you’ve broken, amount of time spent shouting at the trade channel and also your mum shouting “You played too much!” beside your ear.
5. Rare items
-Of course you know what does “Rare items” means. In real life, it consists of stuff that the rich owns while you don’t. This also applies in-game and they can usually be found from Boss-type monsters. Boss-type monsters do not appear everywhere in the game you play as well as can be found easily. They are also not the kind of monster you can kill at level one with your newbie sword unless you hacked into the game system and make your char as powerful as the max level character (But that does not guarantee that you will win against boss-type monsters for sure).
Once you killed the boss-type monsters, Rare items do not appear all the time (Well, maybe they do in some games) thus you need to spend more time camping for the bosses. But why everyone wants the rare item? Sometimes, it’s for prestigious, sometimes they want to earn more money in-game and sometime it is because game developers are evil and made those items powerful as well as cute looking.
I hope some of these words can be useful for you especially you new players!
